Black + White is a study in the variety of pattern possible by alternating black and white in the weft of a twill structure. These patterns also serve as a sort of vocabulary with which to work in other pieces.

Quebec Region: Hand woven in Montreal, Quebec, Canada
Material & Colour: Belgian tow linen is used for the warp and New Zealand wool is used for the weft. Both are natural materials which have immeasurable advantages over synthetic alternatives and which have been in continual use as textile materials for thousands of years.

Alec Sutherland, the designer behind Heaut Beau handwoven rugs, was born in Guelph, Ontario, Canada. Alec has been doing textile things for a long time now but after studying textiles at Concordia University in Montreal, and at the Centre des Textiles Contemporains de Montréal, he has finally fallen in love with the rug.
