Turned Spalted Maple Wood Bowl

Pierre Chayer

A lot of work is put into these beautiful spalted maple wood fruit bowls. Once turned the green wood is dried to shelter from the wind and sun, in a controlled atmosphere: it should not dry or too fast nor too slow. In the first case there is a risk of cracks in the second risk of unwanted heating.
When wood moisture decreased to around 10%, the wood is considered stabilized and will be able to return to the studio to be finished. Spalted wood is caused by wood fungi, resulting in beautiful mosaics of dark lines, shapes and colours.
Each bowl is unique. The images give a good idea of the what you'll receive.
